In 1979, the Virgin of Zikuñaga disappeared, leaving its inhabitants without their iconic image. An empty space in the niche. A collective void.

This is a film about empty spaces. My father, Juanmi Gutiérrez, a filmmaker, passed away some years ago. Now, from a distance, I return to his films in an exercise of personal memory through image, or rather, through its absence.

Can the absence of an image be as powerful as its presence? And if so, what do we do with that void?

Pello Gutiérrez

Pello Gutiérrez Peñalba is a filmmaker and co-founder of the production company Zazpi T’erdi, founded in 2007. He sees cinema as a tool for exploring unknown realities, and has written, directed and produced internationally recognised non-fiction films.

His work also includes experimental cinema, expanded cinema and the integration of video into the performing arts. He teaches audiovisual creation at institutions such as Tabakalera, Cinema en curs and Donostia Kultura, and collaborates in collective film dissemination projects such as LUPA, NOKODEK, MOTZ and the Martutene prison film club.
